Ive been looking into new graphics cards, primarily ones like the 260X, I have an intel i7-2600 cpu, 3.4 ghz and 16 gigs of ram, im using a single 24 inch mnitor. My current card (AMD Radeon HD 6450) stinks, and I want a new one, my goal is to be able to play most current games, and upcoming ones with about 40 - 50 fps minimum, on about medium settings I dont need to run everything on ULTRA settings, but I dont want any lag either. Im wondering if my current cpu, could support a new card like the 260X, and if that card will cut it, and are there any cards coming out that would better suit me?

Solution
Simple rule when choosing a video (invented it myself) - Video should be around your CPU price. If possible - more expensive than the CPU. All winning configurations in toms system building marathons are done this way.
270x and 760 are good candidates. 265 is expected soon. Currently in the higher segment nvidia offers better value if you do not have a preferred brand. Bitcoin mining raised AMD prices.
Decide on your budget, check tom's recommendation for the month at the time of purchase and check some reviews.

I think that you should run a Nvidia card if your up to it.
I would suggest the nvidia gtx 760 because it will handle anything you throw at it and it is a very good card

if you want to stay stay amd graphics cards, I think that you will want to go will something that is a bit more powerful than the 260x

I think that if you pay the extra for a 270x, you will not be disappointing with the product and its performance

hope I helped and happy gaming

Your cpu won't be a problem for any single card. The 260x will not play all current games at your quoted FPS\medium settings and will not always be smooth, assuming 1080p with your 24" monitor. Most will be at or under 40fps. You will need to step up to a 270 or 270x. The new R7 265 will make a better fist of it than the 260x, but IMO the 270 or better is your best option.
