Do I need an appropriate psu to power up my new gpu?

I just bought my self a Gtx 650 Ti to upgrade from a Radeon HD7470 that came with the computer ( I thought it was integrated but i had to actually remove the card from the pci slot). I installed the new gpu but as soon as i powered up the computer i got no signal to my monitor. I re-inserted my old card so that i can install the appropriate drivers from nvidia but it wouldn't let me. It kept saying it couldn't detect any compatible hardware. I don't think the new the card is incompatible, as i did a bit of research and i'm fairly certain i can install the 650 Ti. I'm still using the original psu( 350 watts) and i know that the card i bought requires more than that. I have a new psu on order but i figure i would install the card in the meantime. So the question is, Is it the fact that i don't have an adequate psu? Or am i missing something else?

you may need to upgrade the psu but I don't think that the base of your issue is the psu
you need to uninstall the hd 7470 drivers from your computer and then you can install the new graphics card
**don't forget to install the new drivers for the 650ti when you boot up**
hope I helped xD

Well as far as i can tell, I've deleted everything ATI/AMD related from my computer and still i'm getting no signal to my monitor when i install new gpu and connect hdmi cable to it. I read on another thread that when you delete all your graphics drivers from your computer, the next time you reboot windows, it starts using some old generic drivers and that should allow me to install the appropriate Nvidia drivers. But as far as i can tell the resolution looks the same as it did before i deleted AMD drivers, So maybe i missed something. I've never switched from AMD to Nvidia or vice versa. I've always used AMD, so i'm a bit new to this. Am i missing something? Am i supposed to connect the new gpu via VGA first? Is it a requirement to connect gpu to psu? Isn't that just for overclocking? My existing psu is not connected to the gpu simply because i don't believe it has the right pin connector for it.
