I've a high end mobo, but its onboard sound card sucks, more than my previous cheap gigabyte onboard sound card, I can hear the difference with my music. So I want to find a good sound card, that can output sound directly from the sound card, maybe using ASIO, Kernel Streaming?, or w/e, for bit perfect playback, that's an Analog Stereo green 3.5mm jack, preferably cheap.

I'm thinking of the Asus Xonar DX, but I've seen somewhere that they say some sound cards'll decrease FPS, instead of increasing it, eg as said by Fatal0E in http://forums.pcper.com/showthread.php?430290-Decrease-of-FPS-with-new-sound-card&p=3938476#post3938476

The audigy SE and LS do not do hardware EAX 3 or 4, its all software so the framerate will suffer. What may make it worse is your onboard may have been realtek, and realtek does a quick poor job at eax, the audigy does a better job but it is in software and costs cpu power.
.

So could anyone w/ the know how pls tell me how to select good sound cards that won't decrease FPS/ tell me whether the Asus Xonar DX decreases FPS?

Audio cards should have almost no impact on frame rates.

There USED to be issues when CPU's weren't nearly as powerful. Not sure how old that quote is. He's also talking about low-end sound cards but even then I doubt it would matter.

I could find links or you could just take my word for it to go ahead and get that card.

I've borrowed my friend's Xonar DX sound card and used 3dmark Vantage performance preset to test its gpu score, as a measure of its FPS compared to my sucky onboard sound card, as below, lowest scores= red, highest= green, and the scores before dropping below 17,600= yellow, an eg of a test result http://www.3dmark.com/3dmv/4956546. A thing to note, all tests done were with the Xonar DX put in on my mobo, ie when installed drivers or w/o drivers( if that somehow matters, ie it's the main reason there's not much of a difference w/ the Asus Xonar DX drivers installed/ not). I've done 40 tests for when the Asus Xonar DX drivers were not yet installed, and 20 for installed.

It seems that there's an insignificant difference. The result shows it either increases/ decreases FPS a little.
