I finished building my first pc(Power-color AMD 7870 GHZ + FX 8350+M5A97) today. Everything went smoothly. I downloaded Windows 7 but the problem is that I cant change my resolution to 1920 by 1080. I have an asus vh236. When i go to change the resolution it says for the display "Generic non-pnp monitor on standard vga graphics adapter" and the max it'll go to is 1040 x 768. Is it that my computer is not recognizing the 7870 (which has its fan spinning) or drivers not updated or something else? I think its a problem with the gpu as it only shows up as "Standard VGA Graphics Adapter." Thanks for the help. Much appreciated

Thanks TheTechGamer I got the driver to install and now it recognizes the gpu but im faced with another dilemna (hopefully my last). So my monitor (Asus vh236) resolution max is 1920 by 1080 but I go to the screen resolution menu and I can only put up to 1600 by 900. There is 1600 by 1200 but that made my monitor out of range. Would this be another driver issue?

Nice! I also have a 1920x1080 monitor (LG Cinema IPS Monitor 27")

Here are some questions: Did you restart the computer after the installation of catalyst? Did you make sure the monitor was on/in sleep mode before turning on your computer? If you did not do one or any of the steps, this may be the problem.

TIP: You MUST have the monitor on or in sleep mode to have the correct resolution. If you turn on the monitor after you turn on the computer, the graphics card and monitor does not correctly calibrate. (This is very usual for people using large displays)

Thanks for the reply once again and yes I did have my monitor on the whole time. By the way, when the resolution is 1600 by 900, a black bar appears on the top and the screen is cut out (left and right). Could there be any other plausible reason?

I connected my monitor with a vga and used a vga to dvi adapter to connect with the 7870
