my tv needs high resolution to make the laptop show up and when ever i plug it in it says mode not supported how do i change the settings for hdmi to a higher resolution when i cant see whats on the screen cause when i do it without the cord plugged in it doesnt save the settings for when it is plugged in?

You need to use the HDTV section in your video control panel (Intel, AMD, or NVidia).
Your setup should go like THIS:
1) NTSC_1080p@60Hz, then
2) adjust OVERSCAN
You should have the HDTV setup as an EXTENDED monitor as well or you could have issues. Another option is to ONLY use the HDTV screen.
