If you were to look at a picture of the Asus Z87 Plus Mobo, you will find the lettering that says USB 3.0 boost. Next to it on the right, are two black rectangles that are part of the MOBO build. What is the purpose of these rectangles?

I only ask because when I built this computer and booted up, which I am posting from right now, the rectangle on the left of those two went up in smoke and lit up. It now has two burn marks, but the entire computer runs fine. I of course am replacing the motherboard but while I have to wait for shipping, etc., I figure I could put this build to use :wahoo:

There is no white writing on the black rectangles. They are just black rectangles located to the right of the word USB 3.0 Boost, which is between the first pci 3.0 slot and pci slot from the top if the CPU is oriented at the top if looking down from above

Those ones right?

Looks Like an ASM1430TT IC

OK Those are ASMedia ASM 1083 Bridge Chips.
They are used to connect the Standard PCI slot to PCI Express x1 Lanes as the Intel Z87 chipset doesn't support standard PCI slots.
