hello fellow tinkerers,

i've get some questions about the ASRock Z87 Extreme3 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard.

1. can i crossfire 2 HD 7870?
2. can i overclock my I5 4670K
3. would your recccomend this mobo? (i have a 100€ budget for the motherboard)

Solution
Extreme4 is a lot better in terms of overclocking&stability since Extreme3 has those ancient D-PAK mosfets that are not reliable at all for modern power designs. Extreme4, on the other hand, has Low RDS(on) Renesas or NXP mosfets. Also has more complex power phases (6 hybrid/analog) than Extreme3 (4 hybrid/analog).

Even asrock Z87-Pro4 is better than Extreme3 since it has same mosfets with Extreme4 just with less complex 3 true power phase and less capacitance. But still better than Extreme3.

So I wouldn't recommend Extreme3 as there are a lot more better boards on the market in any day. None of the manufacturers are using D-PAK mosfets for years even in their low-end boards. It's weird to see that ASRock still uses them often.

I...
yes yes and yes. That motherboard is a great choice and i always tend to recommend ASRock as they have the best value/performance boards around, for the price of that board it is very good value.

-It says it supports crossfire, so dual 7870's will be running to maximum potential in the X16 slots.

I don't know what are your other options with 100€ though since prices change alot from region to region. If Extreme4 is in the range, or not dramatically over it, then buy that board. Otherwise check for Gigabyte or MSI z87 solutions.

I had already purchased the Extreme3 board. It was on sale with the 4670k cpu i got for like $200 total. They told me to play DayZ standalone that this board would work just fine. Once i got home though i seen the extreme4 got slightly better reviews, but that makes sense because it costs a bit more for the 4.

thats funny, because I just read how good the boost is for the price point but almost impossible to find. I actually was bidding on one today and quit at $185 on ebay, it sold for $190 total on eBay, kinda wishing I woulda went to 200 on it.
