system restore, failer to initilise

Hi, I installed Avast virus protection (big mistake)and the PC froze up, managed to uninstall it and when things were working again found that
every time I tried to open a program Windows would block it "to protect my computer". tried to run system restore but every time I try it flashes up " Failed to Initalize as widows is shutting down" it goes through its sequence and reports "your system cannot be restored"
Any ideas???

I have been installing Avast free for some 8 years (since Avast 4), and it never caused me a problem. I think what your computer has is a virus infection... some viruses cause such issues that download of security programs is not allowed, others corrupt/disable installed antivirus programs and other security software. So, your Avast installation probably did not conclude successfully.

What you need to do is an Online virus scan... repeat with different scanners if necessary. Also scan with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. System Restore will probably not recover untill you remove the corruption or infection that prevents it from running.. Se if the Repair method described in ehow.com works
