I just recently received my laptop from dell service because of SSD replacement.

I'm a newbie in SSDs

My problem is every time the window starts there's always an error saying "Your system does not appear to have Intel Rapid Start Technology enabled" and in Intel Rapid Storage Technology application I don't have the acceleration tab, when I tried to change the bios settings from AHCI mode to Intel Smart Response technology mode the windows wont start.

The Intel Rapid Storage Technology application shows :
SATA disk (466 GB) (System) port : 0
SATA SSD (30 GB) port : 1

And Disk Management
Disk 1 (29.69GB) is black meaning it's fully unallocated

OS : Windows 8

thanks in advance :)

Nope that means it was just installed but never setup (formatted, etc.). I suspect they are expecting you to use the recovery disks to set this computer back up, but again we all keep saying the same thing

CALL DELL don't post to Tom's to resolve this.
I am thinking that the ISR is actually a renamed version of RAID. RAID would combine both the HDD and SSD into a 'RAID' either as seperate (RAID 0) drives or as combines (RAID 1) which would limit the space to 30GB total, plus be as slow as the HDD. EWWW on the 30GB drive! Not enough space for the foot print.

Did you call back Dell to complain your getting the error? They may have messed up when they did it, and are still libel for the whole 'problems' no matter what it is.

That rapid start issue is not an issue with the disk but rather the BIOS and drivers. There is a Lenovo model that has the same error all the time I know about.

Check with Dell support if there is a BIOS update or maybe a new chipset driver for your model.

Is it normal to show the SSD partition as fully unallocated?
