i currently have my mobo outside my case running, i use a jumper to start it, but if i keep my 6 pin pci-e in the gpu it wont turn on, if i take it out it will boot but the gpu needs the 6. my psu is a corsair 430w so it has enough power. also i use a 2xmolex to 6pin pcie adapter

I have tried the card on another system, works fine. i have also tested the psu and all the wires are working. my idea might be that the adapter for 6 pin might need a molex each from separate molex cables

gigabyte am3 mobo (not sure which model)
phenom x4
asus directCU2 6950
4gb kingston 1333 ddr3
corsair cx430m
usb boot up (no hdd or any other peripherals)

I dont think that will be the problem because i ran a xfx 7950 with a different psu on it for a while and that worked fine. could running 1 molex from 1 line and running the other from a different molex line help. because the lines will be empty apart from that so it will both have separate power from each line to go into the 6pin pci-e

this is your psu and it have a 6 pins pci-e cable so you dont need the molex adaptor check all the cable you have on hand .http://www.corsair.com/en/cx-series-cx430m-modular-atx-power-supply-430-watt-80-plus-bronze-certified-modular-psu.html

I had a look in the box but there is no 6 pin. only one 6+2 pin came with it, and also 1 molex line, and 2 sata power lines

Only using 12 volts from a single rail PSU should not matter.
