This is a problem I've had for over 2 years now, only on the one monitor that I have. I have no tried my system on any other monitor. It has bothered me endlessly, but not enough to purchase a new monitor because it will go away for a while then randomly start doing what it does. Basically, my monitor will go black for about .5 - 1 second then come back and display normally. It will do this sometimes once or twice a day, and sometimes much much more and sometimes not at all. It is completely random, or so I thought until I discovered a pattern some time ago.

The unforeseen flickering (flickering is a bad word and may give the wrong impression, it is more of a pause with the screen going black, as if I were seeking different inputs from the monitor like switching for DVI to VGA or to HDMI) is exacerbated by looking at flat coloured landscapes with not much movement in the scene, or solid coloured images. An example would be a scene like this from Breaking Bad (certainly not limited to) http://crasstalk.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/vlcsnap-00243.jpg

Or it may happen while playing games, the type of game or intensity on the video card does not matter, the flickering continues. It also happens when I am just browsing the internet. I have changed my video card since this has started, and the flickering has not gotten worse or better. I used to have a 5850, I now have a 7950.

My specs are as follows.

AMD 965BE @ 3.6ghz 1.4V stable 32 C
DDR2 RAM 800~ (no OC)
ASUS M4A78-E
AMD 7950 stock clocks (900/1250)
2 Mice, zowie Ec 1, deathadder
1 LG Monitor, about 5 years old. (Flatron W2453V)
TX750 Corsair PSU
3 HDD(no raid) 1 SSD

Now, changing the video cards proved to be futile (though, that was not my main motivation to get a new card, needed an upgrade anyway) and the problem persisted. I turned down my CPU overclock, I changed drivers, repeatedly, Google'd many times and have sort of found similar cases but mine seems very unique. I believe that it may be the monitor itself, but I can't be sure.

**temporary fixes I have tried**

*Overclocking my GPU both core and memory just a little bit. <-- This seemed to help for a while but problem eventually returned no matter the OC.

*Changing my monitor frequency(hz) from 59(standard) to 60, and vice versa. This seems a better fix to the problem and actually works quite well, but alas, the problem returns and persists.

So my challenge is this: Help me find a solution to this extremely annoying problem once and for all and I will be in your debt.

Solution
first of all change the monitors power cord then try a different(hdmi, dvi or vga) cable since you have changed gpu its either a cable issue or its high time you upgraded to a new monitor
ultimatelty borrow a monitor to checks things out if possible.

It could be your monitor cause i had the same problem for a couple of months and I replaced the cables and everything but nothing worked. Then i later realized my monitor was the issue.
What brand is your monitor?

Hi, as stated in the OP "1 LG Monitor, about 5 years old. (Flatron W2453V)"
Good info about the monitor. I think I may try a different DVI cable.
Thanks
