So I currently have a Sapphire OC 7970 video card, and I can get a Sapphire Toxic R9 280x for ~$400. The question is, do I invest in the Sapphire Toxic and crossfire the cards, or do I wait until the next generation comes out and buy one of those?

My suspicion is that I'll get better mileage out of the R9 280x crossfired with the 7970 (and by that I mean more bang for my buck), but I wanted to get a second opinion before I invest in the second card.

Thanks!

You unhappy with your current performance? Nothing really that a 7970OC can't handle at 1080P so maybe waiting is the better option and get a more powerful card.

I'm prepping for Star Citizen - so I'm basically trying to figure out whether the crossfire setup will likely have better performance than the next generation's single card equivalent

It is hard to tell there will be a substantial gap if they come with something topping the R9 290X.
