Hello all,

I have a new gaming rig coming tomorrow that I am building following specs.

I5 4670k 3.8ghz turbo
8GB Corsair Vengeance 1866mhz
Asus Z87-PRO MOTHERBOARD
AMD R9 290 4GB - CARD
120SSD
1TB - HARD -DRIVE - sata
2TB - HARD -DRIVE - sata

and that's it

So my two question will be, Will my 550W 80+ power supply being ok powering this machine for now until I get a new one?

Do you think this rig will be good for quite some time for gaming with no trouble?

as I am currently on an year using the Q6600 still lol.
Reason being is I thought I had a higher PSU when buying at work until I came home and realised! nooo lol

Kind regards

Jadc

I can't guarantee that it will be OK. I'm not the PSU manufacturer.

There's a decent chance that it'll work fine.

it's a powercool X-viper 550w 80+ but I have heard some reviews about these psu's that they are not that great as I only bought it about 3 weeks ago :( . But I have had a cheaper PSU than the powercool for my current rig and that last 3 - 4 years so I am not sure .

thanks for the prompt replies!

The Powercool PCB-550BK claims a +12 Volt continuous current rating of 42 Amps. During 80 PLUS verification testing it was verified with 35.6 Amps on the +12V rail during 100% load testing.

Sorry to sound stupid, but are you saying it will be ok ? I am not really clued up with computer components as I have been out of that action for a while so I am getting back into it.

Thanks for the replies but after reading reviews regarding this PSU I will be investing in something more known such as corsair or something along those lines, I will add the reviews I am reading are over 2-3 years old so perhaps they have fixed them but to be on the safe side! :)
