Is it possible to have two audio sources connected to two different devices on the same PC?

I want to be able to have my TV connected to my PC run the audio for Netflix, Amazon Prime, etc. and my computer speakers & headset play the audio for games. I am running Windows 8.1

I was hoping maybe I could use my on-board sound with my Asus Sabertooth 990FX and adding a sound card, or if I have to, just add two sound cards.

Any help is appreciated.

Yes, connect:
PC to TV thru HDMI for : Netflix, Amazon Prime, etc
PC to desktop speaker to on-board sound of your Asus Sabertooth 990FX

Then, goto Control Panel-->Sound on Playback Tab and select the output you want "Play":
- Select HDMI when you want "TV Sound" output
- Select Speakers when you want "Video Game Sound" output

Just toggle back and forth.....

The previous post tells you how to route your audio either through HDMI or through speakers, one at a time. If you want to get different audio outputs simultaneously, one through HDMI and the other through speakers, there's a way too. I am just giving you the idea. If you are conversant with the procedure you'll understand what I'm trying to say. If not, I'll tell you the process in details later as it is a lengthy one.

The idea is: create a virtual machine whose default audio output will be HDMI. This VM will play Netflix and Amazon prime in your browser through HDMI. At the same time, you'll be able to use the host machine for gaming or music or other purposes, playing sound through speakers as those will be your default audio output in the host.

That is what I am currently doing, actually. I just should have specified that. I was just hoping for a way to do it simultaneously, as dmmbbs says.



I understand what you're saying. I have made virtual machines a couple times in the past, though, I am in no way proficient at it. I will look into that more and see what happens. Thanks!
