computer wont connect to monitor when graphics card is plugged in

Sorry if this in the wrong category I'm not sure which one to post in.

motherboard: gigabyte H81M-HD3
CPU: Core i5-4570 3.2GHz
GPU: gigabyte Radeon R9 270x

I have just finished putting together my first build and turned it on, i wouldn't connect to the monitor so I fiddled around with it and took out the graphics card, optical drive and my HDD. now it loads into the BIOS. If I have my graphics card out but either the optical drive or HDD plugged in I get a message saying "reboot and select proper Boot device"

How do I disable the internal graphics and enable the video card I put in as well as allow the HDD and optical drive to work?

  1. There is usually a BIOS setting that asks what video device to display to.

You need to install an operating system for that message to go away.
