Is my Power Supply causing my system to crash?

Hi,
So last week I got a new XFX R9 290 4gb to replace my sapphire 7870 ghz and it's been causing nothing but issues so far. The problem I seem to have is when the GPU is working hard, either immediately or shortly after, the computer will completely crash and then immediately reboot. At first I thought it was drivers but after using a driver sweeper and doing it manually I'm still getting the same issue.
Computer specs:
- i5 3550 (stock fan)
- ocz 550w fatal1ty
- xfx r9 290 4gb
- ASUS P8Z77-M mobo
- Sharkoon t28
- 8gb kingston hyper-x
- Windows 7 home prem
- Seagate barracuda 500gb

After messing around for the last week I've found that the crashes can be prevented by running games in lower resolution (making it work less), and playing on lower graphics. Also when I try to run something like furmark it insta-crashes. This has made me think that the PSU is at fault here. I know the recommended is 750w.. but I thought I'd be able to get away with my current 550w (which hasn't caused any issues since I got built the pc 18 months ago) as I've read countless reviews and the testing they all do in terms of wattage never goes above 450w.... So what do you guys think?
Thanks in advance.

Yes. GPU 275W/12V=23A, CPU 77W/12V=6.4A, HDD+MB about 50W/12V=4.2A. Total 33.6A. Your PSU provides max 37.5A. So under any kind of stress it may falter. Wspecially OEM of your PSU is sirtec, not well known.
