Does iolo SMP really do anything for my laptop? That is to say, does it really boost my internet speed or maximize my performance in any way when use it?

no it doesnt.in fact programs like that generally do more harm than good.that having been said there are tweaks that can be done on win7 and 8 that can increase performance.black viper is one of the better ones.
