Hello everyone

I am planning on buying a new motherboard as my several-year-old one, just wont do anymore. Due to lack of research (and brain-activity) i only first now found out that OEM version are bound not only to you harddrive, but to your motherboard aswell.

Having to re-install my games are not an option, as i have far over 1tb worth of games and it would litteraly take days to get all that installed again.

So question is: Are there ANY way i can change my mobo WITHOUT having to reinstall all my games? Like using a new key? (but same version of windows)

OEM installations of Windows are bound to the motherboard sure enough, but not to the hard drive. When the motherboard is scrapped or dies, the OEM version of Windows (and it's Product Key & Licence) dies with it.

When you change the motherboard you have to re-install Windows from scratch, so if you do not have a retail Windows disc (or an OEM disc whose Product Key has not already be used), you will have to buy one and it will be supplied with it's own Product Key & Licence.

Obviously that also answers your question about your games and other applications, since they will all have to be re-installed too if Windows has to be re-installed.

Thanks for your answer Phillip, very informative :) So just to make sure and sum it down. There are aboslute no thinkable ways (except using my old mobo) to avoid having to re-install all my games?
