It's not worth upgrading to Win 8. The game performance benefits are relatively small fro between 0 FPS to 3 FPS. Battlefield 4 gets about 3 FPS more in Win 8 because the game was optimized for Win 8.

I have been playing around with Win 8 on my uncles' laptop 'cause I was fixing it for him (massively infected with viruses). The interface takes some getting used to. Win 8 took away the Start button, Win 8.1 somewhat brought it back, but it's not the same as in Win XP or Win 7 (I never touched Vista). Not that crazy about the Metro screen which more or less acts like your start button. First time I used it I was looking for Control Panel for about 2 minutes. I finally gave up and did a search for it.

Overall Win 8 takes some getting used to. Upgrading to Win 8.1 fixes a couple of issues such as bringing back a pseudo Start Button, the laptop boots up to the desktop instead of the Metro screen where you have to click to get to the desktop, and finally the Power is easy to get to. In Win 8 you had to get to the Metro screen, move the mouse to the right for the "Charms" menu to open up, click settings, click the Power icon, then select shutdown. That's 5 steps. In Win 8.1 you click Start, Power then shut down.

However, Win 8.1 seems to have caused the AMD Radeon HD 8850m graphics chip to never be used when playing games... at least on the laptop I have basically fixed for him. He does not really play games, but not sure if it's a problem for him. I'll wait until he gets back from his vacation.

Well like he said it's not worth the money, If you were building a new computer and wanted to know which one to buy get 8.1 but since you have the PC and 7 save your money.
