Hi,

I recently purchased a HD 7850 from Newegg manufactured by XFX. I wanted to use the card to play dota 2 and mine dogecoin. For the first few days I didn't have any problems until the past couple of days. The first incident the display driver would crash and my screen would go black. This was only when I played Dota. Now every time I play dota for more than 10 minutes I get a BSOD. This hasn't happened while mining to my knowledge. I've installed the latest drivers from AMD but it didnt change anything. I'm not sure where to go from here other than RMA the card, but I'd rather not do that unless there is nothing else I can do.

More about : bsod xfx 7850

The two most likely culprits are power and or heat, not software related.

Do you have an adequate power supply?

I have a Thermaltake TR2 W0070 430W PSU but I've had no issues with this while mining which I'm pretty sure is more power intensive. I don't think heat is the problem either

I thought mining primarily stressed the video card and not the CPU, but I don't mine. Either way 430w ought to be enough.

Do other games result in the same BSOD or shut down?

I haven't yet tested that. Do you think I should try that?

I've played BioShock Infinite for a couple hours now with no problems. Does that mean the problem is with Dota?

I have the same kind of issue. I upgraded to the XFX HD 7850 and from day one I any time I ran a Windows Video file or did the Windows Performance test I get a blue screen. XFX said it was probably the CPU, Motherboard, or the PSU. All of which have always tested fine. Do you have the BSoD when you try to run the Windows Performance Benchmark?

Have you tried updating the BIOS of the card?
