First off, I will offer a little background.
I've had my custom built computer for around two years and I used to play on it daily, using my laptop as its form of internet (Because I didn't have a cable long enough to go to my router, and also because I'm cheap!) I was kicked out in the past and went to live with my grandparents (I'm still fairly young, just 18 a few months ago. Whew?) and when I got to my grandparents I was incapable of playing my PC due to the fact I had no monitor. After a while they got a new television upstairs and I tried to use their old screen, but my own screen was all black and I couldn't anything. I thought it was a virus, so I did a total wipe. I soon realized it was just my computer and the graphics card not wanting to merge with the old Telly.

After a while of not playing on it, since my computer didn't want to work with the crappy large Telly, I decided to place my desktop next to my grandparents own, then proceeded to use their monitor. And, this worked well for quite some time. I was playing an MMO, sitting in Raidcall and talking to new friends, and even listening to Spotify.

One night, whilst having a snowball fight in Tera Rising, my internet cut out. I assumed it was just my internet at first, but after trying to get back on multiple times I realized it was my computer. During all of this my laptop was fine and I was sitting on the internet. My grandparent's desktop was also totally fine.

Now, I have spent the last couple months playing around with it and trying to get it to work... I've reset the computer at least twice and nothing was fixed. I made sure all drivers were up to date, I've tried a different ethernet cable, and I've tried IPconfigs. I always get "Media Disconnected" for everything.

I can occasionally get on the internet on my desktop, and if I don't do anything it will stay connected for quite some time... But if I try to watch a stream online, or if I try to play a game it will disconnect after two minutes. I can, however, watch some Youtube on it. I can also Skype for a short while.

I've gone into the options for my adapter and made sure Energy Efficient Ethernet was off, and even tampered with a few other things with the help of a friend, but none of it helped. The first time I turned "EEE" off, I was able to play games all day with merely 3 disconnects. Shortly afterwards I re-connected and was able to continue playing without much of an issue. The next day, I woke up and had the same issues as before.... Constant disconnects.

The adapter that has the ethernet port on it also has two USB ports, one for my mouse and one for my keyboard, and both of those work while the Ethernet has its issues. 90% of the time, I also have green lights on. It's rare for both lights to be out at the same time.

I also went to my local computer repairman and he gave me a free card to see if it will help (It's a card from 2008, Dell. This may be why it's having issues, especially since my router is fairly old. Under a year old.) I plugged it in and it downloaded the drivers needed, but the issues are totally different for this one. Both lights are always green, but this adapter won't even detect my network... If I troubleshoot it I'm told:
"Investigate router or broadband modem issues.

If you're connected to a hotspot or domain network, contact the network administrator. Otherwise:
1. Unplug or turn off the device.
2. After all the lights on the device are off, wait at least 10 seconds.
3. Turn the device on or plug it back into the power outlet."

If I click "check to see if problem is fixed" it loads a bit longer and then tells me:

"Local Area Connection 2 does not have a valid IP Configuration". But I can't do anything in the CMD because of the whole "Media Disconnected" issue.

I've been stumped for some time, and so has everybody else I know... I'd greatly appreciate any help I can get, and if need be, I can use Skype for quicker assistance, or email.

strange.. only thing i can think to try is see if there is the option in your card settings (or registry), to manually fix the speed of the card to whatever your router supports? (100mb full duplex)?

If its a custom made PC check everything seems healthy with your power supply etc.

Also check for any sources of massive Electro Magnetic Interference, like Power Adapters or big speakers. Try and keep them away from your cable.
