I plug my new build parts into every calculator I can find and they all are calculating around the 443-496w area -- Processor is FX4300 Vishera, Graphics is 7870, Motherboard is m5a99fx, 4 sticks ddr3, a solid state, and a 10,000rpm 2.5 drive and a combo drive, and wireless nic. nothing fancy with the fans, two exhaust at the top/back, two intake front/side, one fan on cpu.
I would go with the 4XXw psu and get a 550 or so, but the specs on the graphics card alone says it requires a minimum of 500w psu. With the graphics card suggesting 500w, the cpu being a 95w, why are the calculators under 500w? What am I missing? I assume I'm entering something wrong into the calculators.

The GPU recommendation makes a guess about everything else in your system - the GPU itself is only ~200W.

I'd go with a good 550Ww or possibly 600W.

500w is more than enough. If one can power an slightly OC'd 4670k and gtx 770 then 500w can power that

4670K is a lot less power hungry than FXs can be, especially overclocked.

Thank you, I was hoping that was the case, and then I got the GPU in and it required two power connectors... that's what got me looking into whether my PSU was gonna be enough.

Yeah, the PSU requirements are basically lawsuit preventers. Lots of padding for crap PSUs and fast CPUs.
