Hello awesome people of tomshardware, is it dangerous to have the corsair CX500 psu with my PC?

Here's my list of components with a calculated wattage at the top: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/2TNaY

I've been running it for a few weeks and also the temperatures are good so far.

Also a friend of mine has the same PSU, but a better GPU and Mobo. He has had his for a few weeks longer. But the next question i'm trying to ask is that, my room smells of my pc if the makes sense? when i am gaming that is, i think its my psu, but my friend does not experience the same smell he says. But my pc has been running fine, should i not worry about it? or should i be very worried? I can't really smell it if i'm sitting down using my pc, but when i walk in my room i can. It sits on my desk next to me. if i ever add anything in the future would it been safe just to add a few more case fans?

Thanks, i know the questions i asked were not explained out very well - sorry!

The GPU and CPU are more demanding than my build ,and mines require a 500 watt as minimum. I would upgrade to 600 watt as soon as possible. Also it my might be your power supply smelling like that.

Do you presume it draws up to 500W or have you measured the current draw at the outlet? The OP's system definitely draws less than 500W. The original question was "Is it dangerous" and the answer is no.

It said on Newegg.com under my specification under my gpu which read that it would require at least a minimum of 500 watts ,but on the other hand it seems his gpu receives 20% less heat because of direct-copper heat pipes.

I probably should have done a little bit more research before giving an answer ,but also any kind of extra smell coming from your computer can't be good I would at least see if any wire are messed up. :)

I think the smell is coming from my wireless adapter which is plugged into a socket next to me (which carries an Ethernet cable to my pc), i smelled it and it smells the same as what i thought was a smell form the PSU.

I checked my wires, they look alright to me, my friend's one is spread across the side and he has no smells but mine is grouped with zip ties. Though my group of wires does go through the cut out (in the case there is a cut out for cpu fan brackets at the back of motherboard). But again, my friend's one is spread across more than mine and his has no smell. I think it is the adapter.

Thanks for your help Drjead!
