I have a HP Pavilion DV5000 Entertainment Laptop. it came with windows XP. everything worked. I installed windows 7 about a month ago and lost my sound... I waited to see if windows update could find the sound card, so far no luck. there is a speaker bar in the front that says Altec Lansing, I tried so many different drivers, like real tek they install but nothing happens, I even tried installing them in troubleshoot mode etc. I tore this sucker apart and found the sound card I think. it says HAL20 L3-3186P Rev. 1.0 SPECS is a turion 64 and it has windows 7 64 bit, please help. drives me nuts, try to do work but find myself more focused on finding sound problems haha

Hi, for you laptop, HP didn't make the driver for Windows 7, what you could try is the driver for Vista : http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp34501-35000/sp34567.exe

Hey thanks for your response. I tried that just now, I've had that driver before, I'm pretty sure its the original. I put it on in troubleshoot compatibility mode and on its own and nothing. it brings up my sound properties and in there it says "No audio devices installed" and then the install finishes and it says Failure.... and then incompatible application detected. I went thru the list too with troubleshoot mode from vista right down to xp and all service packs. prob better off installing usb speakers haha
