so i wanted to upgrade my PC to play some new games. so i was wondering if my build is good enough to play Battlefield 4, Assassins creed 4, Borderlands 2, and games like those, (last gen-current gen) games on high (or ultra hopefully) will this work? i was thinking of just getting a new CPU, RAM, and video card, but my current case right now is small so i threw in a case with it too, is everything compatible with each other? my budget is give or take 600, i can stretch my budget to 650 if its really worth it, but if its not a big improvement i can wait. Also, i do not need a Hard-drive, i can use my old one until i can get a larger one, and plus i have my Windows 7 backup/recovery discs 'round here somewhere so i wont need an OS. but will i need a CPU cooler? can someone give me some feed back? maybe suggest a different part if you find a better one?
thanks!

Yes it can play the games you suggested, but the PSU is a bit weak. I would go for at least a 600watt with the components you chose. The parts that you chose are pretty good and will work togeather.

One thing I suggest changing though is getting a CPU with a higher clock speed. You don't need 6 cores, but you do need a high clockspeed for gaming. 3.5GHz is fine normally, but with the GPU you selected it will cause a bit of bottlenecking, so go for a CPU with 3.7GHz or more (You can also overclock if you have experince with that).

thanks for answering, and i have no clue how to overclock, i heard it is incredibly hard, but i don't know. do you know of a 6 core CPU that has your recommended speed? also, i have the best graphics card that i can afford (unless you know otherwise,) i think im pretty good except i need a faster CPU,

That is a pretty good build, and AMD CPU's are good for value to performance ratios.
I would recommend you upgrade your CPU to something better, because the R9 270X is a very good card, and might out-perform your CPU, causing a bottleneck. (The CPU will be working at maximum, while the GPU will not, causing an imbalance.) But if you were to save up for a, lets say i5 or i7, preferably something with a "K" behind it (unlocked, good for OC.), it would run un-bottlenecked and with plenty to spare.

But for $600 what you've suggested is good.

This CPU should do the job: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819113327

This will save you from having to overclock because it is already pretty fast.

The power supply is not the best quality but its OK, I would go with XFX Antec Corsair or 1 I had read good expert (not customer) reviews of. Other than that it all looks good.
