Is your goal just to have a fast gaming/media pc that you won't have to upgrade for a while? I think you can accomplish the same upgrade cycle (assuming gaming performance will be the upgrade impetus) with a lower initial budget. Having two motherboards is not going to scale your gaming performance up. You won't be able to link cards across different motherboards.

Best bet is to get a Haswell i7 4770k, a good cooler, an SLI-capable motherboard, and a strong GPU. So say that's your base for great performance. Adding another motherboard into a case with identical specs won't increase your performance in any game. What will increase your performance is adding a second card to the same motherboard later on or right now.

I would...

I'm not entirely sure on the dual motherboard Idea ,but I know for a fact that it's possible to have 2 CPU's running one one computer and have multiple slots of ram. The motherboard that has all of these capabilities is the "EVGA SR-X Classified Motherboard." This motherboard feature two slots for two CPU's. Not to mention that it also has 12 slots for ram which is just ridiculous. If you want to see a video of all of this in action here's a great video that mentions almost everything you wanted. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=81H44oJGceA&hd=1

I would recommend a Gigabyte UD4H, i7 4770k, gtx 780/780 Ti (or two depending on your resolution and budget) with a good CPU cooler.

Before getting specific: what's your budget? Will you be gaming primarily on a 1080p tv? Does it need to be an AMD system?
