Hi I just built a new set up. I bought everything new from Newegg or Ebay except for my graphics card. The graphics card is a VisionTek 900505 HD 7850 2gb; which I got used from Ebay. The seller has 100% feedback and the add stated used for testing & works perfectly.

I got everything going yesterday. While still waiting on the graphics card to come in I installed a 8800gts, installed windows 8.1 and everything worked great. The card came in today. I installed the card and turned the computer on and the graphics will not display. It looks like windows is loading, and sometimes the mouse pointer will be displayed; however I can never get the main windows screen to come up. I checked the gpu seating, the plug in, and everything and still nothing. I re-installed the 8800gts and everything came up just fine again. I then installed the latest amd 7k series drivers, and re-installed the HD 7850, and it still did the same thing (the fan on the gpu comes on, but cant get anything on my screen).

Question, is there something maybe I am missing or doing wrong for the 7850 not to be working properly?

Solution
remove the Nvidia drivers first before installing the ATI drivers, to do this remove the card and use the onboard graphics. remove the NVIDIA drivers and turn off your computer and make sure to disconnect all the power plugs lastly install the card and turn on your computer. install the ATI drivers (if prompted to restart yor computer hit restart)

Hi there,

Do you have another PC or a friend's PC you can try the GPU in? That will help with the troubleshooting.

What PSU do you have?

Advise to make contact with the seller to let them know you are having troubles incase they have any suggestions

I would suggest to uninstall the display drivers for all cards and start from scratch, or uninstall windows and really go back to stage one (if time is on your side and all other options have been exhausted)

Failing all of that, if nobody has any eureka moments you have gotten unlucky with a broken GPU

Good luck,

Regards

Thanks for the response. I have an Antec 650w psu. I did contact the seller to let him know and he swears the unit works. I will take the card and try it in another computer tomorrow to see, again thanks.

Antec is a solid brand so there should not be any issues there.

As with everything, there is always potential for a damage to happen in transit, just very bad luck if that is the case.

Testing it in a friends PC should give you a more definitive idea on where the problem lies.
