Hi guys, i'm looking for a really budget build either with your recommendation in an intel barebone or a dirt cheap desktop tower.
Budget : $300-$500
Its intended purpose is to be a dedicated download machine, and portable-ish to transport to friends house to use his much faster internet.
Example: torrenting, installing/downloading very big mmos/games and being able to transfer it to my main pc.
Obviously the barebone would be far more portable, but an extremely budget desktop in a micro atx form factor would be somewhat portable, I'm after value for money concerning storage etc.
I'm aware most of what i'm after could be done on a friends pc and then transferred to an external drive, but i cant install things on or hog his computer
Question 1: Can a barebone desktop make use of a 500gb-1TB hdd whether it be a notebook drive 2.5" or desktop size 3.5" (Some barebones can support either size)?
Question 2: Just for example, if i were to download and install a game like World of Warcraft onto the barebones, i could just copy the game folder to my main PC?(This is why i'd like a portable system that can handle the download and then installation of a game that can then be transferred to my main pc, my bandwidth at home is shocking.)
Question 3: If barebone systems lack the compatibility for 500+gb drives, should i settle for a small desktop pc?
Thank you for any advice
