Hi
Im looking to upgrade my GPU because I got a new 1440p Monitor. And I've been drawn to the 290 because of its incredible price to performance ratio. However, now that prices of the 290 have risen (in the UK), it has become closer to the price of a 780.
Which one should i go for?

Sapphire Tri X 290

Asus Direct CU II 290

Or any other 290 model? MSI Twin Frozr? Gigabyte Windforce?

As for the 780s, i think the cooler is less important as the 780 doesn't run as hot as the 290

So in short, R9 290 vs 780 for 1440p gaming, which model and why?

thanks

Well now its matter of choice and brand appeal in this case (I was Nvdia fanboy in the early's but now i respect ATI/AMD equally for their budget offerings) Nvidia's solution run's quite cooler than AMD and is more power efficient too but since AMD was providing the same performance as 780 for less it seemed to be a better choice but as for now if there is little difference opt for 780 from ASUS.

Its almost personal preference at this high level, as both should do the job. Just make sure if you go with a branded 290, that it has a really good cooling set-up because that card runs HOT!

Personally I would go with a GTX 780.
