Hello People

My 9 months old Corsair Vs550 is making noise: "Brrrrrrrrrrr" Can you give me an advice for a quiet fan?

Check the spec of the faulty fan using the part code.

Make sure you get a similar spec fan or even try and get an identical fan as that fan will have been used for a reason.

Changing the fan is usually pretty straight forward but be careful when taking the case apart, don't disturb anything you don't need to.

Thanks
How can i avoid from high voltage? I heard pressing on/off button for 5 secs discharges static electricity. What if i use plastic gloves?

Ok but i read that the fan inside Vs550 is "thermally controlled". What does this mean, should i buy a with 4 pins?

You can't just use any fan you find.

If the fan you buy has too high of a starting voltage your PSU may overheat before the fan even begins to spin.

If the fan you buy has insufficient airflow you will also risk PSU overheat.

You're trying to replace a Yate Loon D12SM-12 sleeve bearing fan. It's a two wire fan rated at 70.5 CFM @ 1,650 RPM and has a starting voltage of 2.9 Volts.

What does "thermally controlled" means? Does the psu control fans by changing the voltage like a fan controller?

I can't find Yateloon fans in my country. I'm thinking one of those :
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835186033
They are quiet on low rpm and have low starting voltage (3,6).

Thermally controlled means that there is a thermistor mounted usually on the secondary side heatsink that determines what voltage level is provided to the cooling fan.

If the PSU is still within Corsair's 3 year warranty period you can always initiate an RMA and get the PSU replaced as long as you haven't broken the warranty seal affixed to the PSU.
