should I Upgrade from i3 to i5

Hi all. I currently have an i3 2120 processor in my system I mostly game with it asni have a radeon 7870 with it. I have found on the Internet an i5 2300. Non k version for £55. I dont want to over clock. I worked out that I can sell my i3 2120 for about £50 - £60. But is it worth it. I know I definitely need to upgrade cos the i3 is a bottleneck but im not sure if there is any difference apart from the cores between the processor. PLEASE HELP

I currently play most of the higher end titles like far cry 3 battlefield 4 and medal of honor mostly cos any other card lower than them 7870 would die with this processor. Am I likely to get any higher fps or quality within these types of games with an i5 2300

I would definitely recommend going to a i5 since newer generation games designed for PS4 and Xbox one when start porting to PC will need at least a quad core processor. And 7870 is surely bottle necked by your current CPU.
You must keep in mind having at least 4GB of minimum RAM in your PC.

Yes especially BF4 will benefit from the i5 and more future games will.

I know that I am pushing my luck but would I have a system equivalent or better than the ps4 or xbone cos I know that the new consoles use something like a 7850 at least the ps4 does.

The systems are not directly comparable since in PC gaming you can play with settings and on consoles you get what you get. More and more games will come out that are designed for these new consoles that will be able to use all 4 cores on a I5.

I know these are not comparable but its just a analogy.
Actually these consoles have shared 8GB GDDR 5 memory for the APU designed by AMD which is seriously optimized for gaming. Still i am comapring it on terms if computer performance which is around 1.87 TeraFlops for one of these console ( cant remember which one).
As a baseline a Radeon 7750 delivers 1TeraFlops Computer performance.
