I just purchased a corsair h80 and with little thinking I went after to check if it fit but only to find that my CPU and motherboard is a fm2 and the liquid cooling only works with am3 and am2 and some intel ones. The question I want to know is, will the liquid cooling fit on an fm2 because I read on a forum that the fm2 is the same as the am3

The H80's AMD installation just grabs the 2 plastic tabs the stock cooler grabs(they are plastic so do not over tighten, but it can still take some force). So the H80 will fit ANY Athlon 64(so not the old XP's) and newer cpu because AMD has kept the same plastic tabs for mounting.

Your answer on the other forum is correct for coolers that use the holes in the motherboard.
