I dropped my 4 year old HP G60t-600 laptop which caused my hard drive to fail. I am able to start the computer but all programs give the 'program not responding' message before starting, and then perform on a very limited basis. I ordered recovery disks from HP and am in the process of ordering a new hard drive. So I have the following questions:
A) will the recovery disks have Windows 7, which is the OS it came with when I bought the laptop directly from HP.com. What about MS Office? FYI, I have the Windows proof of license/certificate of authenticity sticker
B) if not, can I get them off of the old hard drive? Unfortunately the drive won't let do a back up, so I don't see how it's of any use.
C) which brand of hard drive should I buy? I've seen comparable HDs as low as $55 and as high as $400, same size and speed etc.

My apologies if my questions are moronic;) or there's not enough info to go on, I'm happy to provide more details. Any advice is most appreciated.

Solution
A) The recovery disks will have exactly what was on it when you bought it.

B) Probably not. That drive is likely dead. Depending on which version of Office, you can probably d/l the trial from MS, and activate with your existing key.

C) Seagate or WD

Thanks very much for the quick response. Do you think there's any point in buying a data transfer kit? There are some files I would like to save (word docs, pics etc.)

So I installed a new hard drive and tried to use the recovery disks I got from HP but I get "no bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key" I went into the Bios and changed the boot order, putting Internal CD/DVD rom 1st, but still got the same error. Figuring my DVD drive was shot, I bought a new external one and changed the boot order to "USB diskette on Key/USB hard disk" same result. Lastly I changed the order to USB floppy, again same error....I'm out of ideas
