I just built my computer, and I installed my O/S (Windows 8.1) into my HDD.

Now..if I ever bought an SSD, could I re-install my O/S into the SSD again?
Same serial number and everything.. I reckon I'd have to do some uninstalling and what not into the HDD first or...?

More about : install ssd

A fresh install is advisable, but you can use data migration software. Results of data migration seem iffy, though. I would just recommend a fresh install.

Yes you can. No 'uninstall' from the old drive needed. Just remove it.
And install fresh on the SSD.

Okay.
But I would be using my HDD still.. I was just thinking of getting an SSD for faster boot times overall.
And the HDD for storage. Is this still the way to go?

I see.
Well currently the HDD is barely used. Everything is brand new, I don't know if that relates to anything.
What I plan to do.. is use the HDD for storage, and the SSD just for faster boot times.
So will be using both of them.

Yes. That is a quite common configuration.

My current main PC:
128GB SSD for OS and ALL applications (apart from games)
128GB SSD for working documents and a couple of games
2TB HDD for other games and mass storage
3TB HDD for mass storage and backups of other stuff

So with the O/S both installed on both HDD and SSD, is okay? Like... the two wouldn't fight over who gets their allowance would they :p
Which is what I kind of figured you'd need to uninstall the O/S on the HDD, then install on the SSD. But im probably wrong.
I do recall watching a tut..where you could configure your BIOS to use your SSD as the primary boot drive or something.

You don't need or want the same OS on both drives.
But there is no 'uninstall'. Just remove it (format, or delete the partition and format). There is no specific 'uninstall'.

So...once you get the SSD (and you should !):

Have only the SSD connected
Do the install
Set the BIOS boot priority to SSD only
Reconnect the HDD(s)
Blow away all partitions on the HDD
Reinstall your applications as needed. Some on the SSD, some on the HDD (Depending on SSD size, of course.

When you buy....120GB minimum.

I see thanks.
Not 100% sure on how to do the partition on the HDD and what not..but that makes sense

Disk Management. You'll see each drive on its own line.
Right click and do what is needed.
