Is this the better choice?

Save yourself some money. I've used the TP-LINK TL-WN822N Wireless N300 High Gain USB Adapter with really, really good results. By that I mean, the router one floor down on the other side of the house and I stll played games like Killing Floor with double digit pings, MW3 full bars and other people on the network. It's USB but don't let that put you back as that tech has come a long way and it's half the price.

I recently upgraded to an Asus N66 USB wireless adapter because I bought a wireless dual band router and I'm very pleased...

That is a good choice...I have a similar adapter from Rosewill and love it. Card direction isn't so much an issue, but how many walls between you and the router may be. FYI, my router is in a different room and level of the house...no issues
