Hi everyone. I don't usually ask questions on forums like this but I am at a loss, so here goes.

I've been trying to help my friend with an issue regarding his new Acer E1. I guess when he bought it, he downgraded it to windows 7 and for whatever reason decided to upgrade it back to windows 8. At which point, the problem with missing drivers became apparent. We have reinstalled the proper drivers listed on acer's website with no problem, everything is working except for one detail.

The HDMI output. Now, (with the proper drivers) there does not even seem to be an option for connecting to an external display. no luck with the hotkeys either. When he told me about this, I first thought it would be the drivers. But after updating the drivers, I'm beginning to think maybe its windows..? Unless I'm missing a driver that is not posted..

The Acer forum staff told me to reinstall the drivers (done) and to use eRecovery if all else fails. eRecovery does not seem to work? the system can not find it and the boot-up hotkeys are not working.

I have not been able to find a similar problem to reference..
Also, We have no installation disc to work with..

In any case, I was wondering if anybody would know if this is a driver problem, or a problem with windows itself. I'm starting to think there is not much I can do for this laptop. :/

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

Hi, thanks for the reply. The VGA drivers you have linked me to are the same ones we have been trying, but installing them does not seem to make much of a difference. The problem still appears to be present.

Should I be trying the Windows 8.1 drivers instead?
