SSD vs mSata SSD with HDD RAID0

I'm trying to determine what storage configuration I want. Would I be better off with an SSD with 2 2 tb HDD's in RAID 0 or an mSata SSD with 2 2 tb HDD's in RAID 0? Also what size SSD or mSata SSD would I need?

  1. Depending on what you're using this for:

    1 x SSD
    2 x HDD, just a regular drives.

Why are you thinking of a RAID setup? And which RAID type?

RAID 0. Just to speed things up. Will the SSD act as a cache for the hdds or is that only with mSata? I plan on using the SSD for booting and processing and the HDD's for storage.

What size SSD? I recommend 120GB minimum. Which will hold a LOT of applications and the OS.
The HDDs just for stuff where it doesn't really matter.

No, the SSD won't be a cache. It would (preferably) be just the boot OS and applications.
For most things that will live on the HDDs, speed is not an issue.

And RAID 0 brings more complexity and fail potential.
