Hi!

I have 2 opportunities at hand (used cards), and I'm unsure which is the best choice.

Palit GTX 580 - 100 €
Asus 7770 HD - 50 €

I believe the GTX 580 is way more powerful (and also likes to eat Watts) but it is an old model, and it may suffer from lack of optimization soon, maybe?
I beleive I read somewhere that overclocked 7770s work quite well.

Let me be clear - I'm quite unfamiliar with the GFX Card lineup, but I am familiar with electronics, I'm willing to overclock if that's the best way to go.

Thanks for reading!

EDIT:
You've already cleared my mind quite a bit, but If you want to throw more advices at me, I will gladly read them!
My "build": (more like a quick and dirty home/family build that I threw together a few years ago)

AMD Athlon II X2 245 @ 2.89 Ghz
ASRock M3A785GM-LE 128M (AM3, max 2 x 4 gb DDR3, PCIE 2,0,...)
2 GB DDR3 (Mobo supports a max of 2 sticks of 4 gb each, so 8GB)
Crappy PSU (Planning on buying a good Seasonic/similar one that can last me some years, Was waiting on the GFX Card to pick this one up)
OCZ Vertex2 SSD 120 GB (Mine hasn't given me a single problem as of yet! :O)

Quite unbalanced, I know :p. For now.
Budget:
I'm looking for the best bang for the buck I can get.
I can spend, but I come from a xbx 360 so...yeah. pretty much anything will work. Back to PC. Now.

Thanks to all, very helpful!
Love this site, I just registered and I think I'm gonna stay around for a while, great community! :D

Great point. To be honest, I just wanted to know which one was the better deal, and that's what they provided :) That's the decision I was having the most trouble with, plus I didn't want to overwhelm the post with (IMO) unnecessary info.

Still, I will edited the main post with my "build" and budget, in case anyone wants to give their opinion (it's more of a quick and dirty home/family build that I threw together a few years ago)

Well, it depends on what you're going to do with this GPU. This GPU is pretty good, but compared to the 700 series of nvidia, a 760 would beat this card. My bro has a 570, and plays on BF4 on high setting, i play on ultra with my 770 :)
