Keeping Windows 8.1 through motherboard switch

Would i be able to run windows 8.1 on my new motherboard or will it not be affected? I already have windows 8.1 on my current computer. Would I need a new code?

Just went through this a week ago. Swapped from Asus m5a97 to Asus m5a99fx pro r2.0 running windows 7. The license key would never activate since it was a OEM version windows disc and was already activated on the old mobo. Had to call microsoft and purchase a new key $40 for the new installation.

Thanks, would i have to re-pay for it if I got a different motherboard?
