Unable to rename folders

I have a custom system and installed Linux-based Openelec for the OS. I had a second HDD for additional media. I recently changed the OS to Windows 8.1 and reattached the second hard drive. I found the two folders of media are inaccessible. Both directory names contain colons which are not permissible in Windows. I tried renaming the folders, but windows says the directories do not exist even though it plainly displays them. I tried renaming and deleting them without luck in safe mode and through the command prompt. The folder properties say the folder size is 0 bytes, but I'm sure the media is still there, but windows is unable to read it. Short of reinstalling a Linux OS, how can I rename or delete the folders?

UPDATE: I tried several versions of linux and was finally able to live boot a version which allowed me to rename the folders. FIXED!! YAY! Just took a bunch of time downloading and formating various boots to find the right one.

This might help, 3rd option favourite...
