Lately I have been seeing random drops in fps, typically from 140-150 FPS down to 10-15 FPS(unplayable), they normally only last around 10-15 seconds.

I've been monitoring GPU speeds and temps for the last 4-5 hours and the pattern I'm seeing is temps fluctuate between 45-60 C depending on load and the game I'm playing. Then right when I see an FPS drop on my main monitor I look over at my GPU Shark and my MSI Afterburner and I see a spike downward in GPU usage and I see my performance on my GPU shark show that I'm using 300 Mhz of the core clock on my 7870 then it will go back up to stock clock at 1050Mhz (I don't OC my GFX card)

I'm running a 8320 @ 4 Ghz (H60i cooler) on an ASRock 990FX Extreme4. I have a Corsair 600W non modular Power Supply. I've tried new drivers, fresh windows install, updating bios, and adjusting clocks/making sure they are locked in.

The games I typically play are
Starcraft 2
CounterStrike:GO
Loadout
WorldofTanks

It's most noticible in CS:GO, Loadout, and World of Tanks. The games pretty much drop to unplayable and I just need to know if it's some system setting I'm completely oblivious to or do I just need a new GFX card?

Hi there,

I have the same problem with my Gigabyte HD 7870 Windforce. I was playing Arkham Origins when suddenly I had the same FPS drop. GPU usage sank to 20%.

Card temp was around 50 C, CPU around 40 C... I have a i5 3470 (Noctua NH D14 cooler) on an Asrock Z77 Extreme 4 with a 850w XFX Pro PSU and 8 GB 1600 Mhz RAM. I have the latest BIOS and GPU drivers.

The bottleneck might my monitor, it's an old 19" Samsung with 1440x900 resolution, however I had no problems with other games so far.

Any advice or hint would be highly appreciated.
