I have an AMD A6-5400k APU with a MSI FM2-A55M-E33 motherboard and after installing Catalyst drivers and rebooting it freezes at "Starting Windows" or I get a blue screen just after.
The issue is definitely linked with the Catalyst video driver because when I disable/uninstall it (from recovery) and revert to Microsoft VGA adapter the computer display is normal.
I have the same problem with Windows 7, Ubuntu and Mint.
I have installed drivers from MSI and AMD online sources as well as Linux package installers. I have also installed drivers that came with the CD. I have tried Catalyst 14.1 (beta), 13.12 (stable) and a couple of older ones.
I have tried using my ram one stick at a time and in different slots to eliminate them as a problem.
I have tried disconnecting all unnecessary cables.
I have tried playing around in BIOS.
I have done a lot of research on this site and others for similar problems.
I am using a hdmi to dvi cable on a monitor that doesn't support hdmi, only dvi or vga.
This has taken up so much of my time I wish I'd never bought a bloody computer. I'm at the end of my tether with this and with no money to visit a repair store I am giving it one last desperate attempt by writing on here to see if anyone smart out there can help me out.
