Win+X menu loses focus after key-combo press

I am running Windows 8.1 Pro, just did a clean installation, installed all Windows updates and had Windows already detect all my hardware with its generic drivers.

My issue is that, everytime I press the key combination "Win+X", the Win+X menu appears, however, after it appears, it does not let me press any of the shortcut keys to launch one of the programs from the list (I.E. Command Prompt has an underline under the letter 'C').

If my mouse isn't hovering over the Win+X menu after the menu appears from the key-combination, it won't let me use those underlined shortcut keys.

When I hover my mouse over the menu, all my underlined shortcut keys functions and launches the utility I want to use from Win+X list.

I know Windows 8 does not have this problem.

Is there a fix for Windows 8.1 so the Win+X menu doesn't lose focus? I find it very annoying having to move my mouse over that corner of the screen every time I open that menu... and it is quite frequently. I want to use the mouse as least as possible.

Solution
Use 'Shift' plus your desired key, that works with the Mouse cursor anywhere on the screen... also applies to desktops that have no Fn key...
