Hello, i've been having this problem with mi pc, it freezes, most times whilst playing games, during video sequences (example: when playing NBA 2k14 it freezes when a highlight comes up or when a free throw's coming up). it's been a couple of months and this keeps happening even though i've tried many things. I ran the memtest for hours without errors, i also ran 3d mark (graphics: 3282 physics: 5564 combined: 3311) , it's not a temperature issue i've checked speed fan, i've updated every driver and reinsatlled windows. I've also changed the hard drive. the thing is: whenever i did any of this, basically whenever I opened up the pc and fumbled inside, it seemed to work for a while, I could play sometimes for hours on end, sometimes for minutes. I had it checked by a technician, and he said nothing was wrong with it (and for a while it just worked). It doesen't have to do with the graphics quality the game is set on, either it's low or high the result is the same: freezing. I don't know how to check the PSU, to see if it's working properly.
My specs are:
A D Phenom(tm) II X6 1090T Processor, 3200 Mhz
4 GB Ram DDR3
Video card: VGA saphire ATI HD 6850 1GB DDR5 3D
Power supply: 750W
Mother: Asus M4A87TD
I don’t know what else to try. What do you reckon?
Thanks!

Thanks for answering.I've updated drivers and still the problem remains. Is there any free software to check for outdated drivers?

Not that I know of. I usually just go to the GPU website and download the newest package for that generation of card.
Have you altered any settings in the bios?
When the game freezes, does the entire computer shut down or blue screen? Or does it eventually un-freeze?

No, i haven't altered anything in the bios. The computer doesn't shut down, and there is no alteration in the image, it just freezes, no pixelation or broken image, just the still image and no use of the cursor or any key. I've never really tried and see if it un-freezes, so i don't really know.

Hmm, that's an odd thing then. Try monitoring your RAM usage during a game. If you use more than 4GB then I believe your system reverts to a page file on the hard drive, which would be very very slow and may cause it to freeze. 4gb is not very much, and I often go over that if I have a browser up, itunes, etc. Just a hunch.

Another thought: A friend of mine had a problem with his computer crashing constantly because he had installed windows 32-bit. Using windows 64-bit solved the problem. To check which one you have, click start - right click Computer - Properties.

I'll Try monitoring the RAM, though i don't know how to do that during a game. Could it be a RAM usage problem showing up now and not before? The computer is three years old, and never had this kind of problem before. Can it develop over time? Also i usually don't have any open programmes while i'm playing, only tune up utilities running. Regarding windows, i have 64-bit installed.

Today I tried using the computer in a different location, just had a hunch about it, and it worked perfectly, didn't freeze at all. I guess it could have something to do with electric tension issues at my place. What do you reckon?

Yeah, I suppose it could be. I've heard it's bad to set your computer on carpet due to static build up. Also, if your PSU fan is facing the bottom of the case, then you definitely don't want it on carpet. Anyway, glad you worked it out.
