Refurbished Laptop, Dead HD, How to reinstall refurbished windows?

I have a refurbished Thinkpad I got my wife as an inexpensive option for having a school laptop. It's worked well, though the HD died.

I do have the windows 7 disc given to us by the company that refreshed the laptop, and I do have a laptop hard disk. The problem is, that the laptop has a refreshed OS license; the product sticker has no product key on it at all.

Will I be forced to purchase an entire new license for windows on this laptop?

this is not an answer, but an additional question:

I do not have a disk, but do have a Refurbished Key on the bottom of the laptop
hard drive failed, which had a partition to restore the OS, Windows 7 Professional for Refurbished PC's
Can a regular Windows 7 Professional disk be used with this, or is it a special disk for Refurbished PC's
The company I purchased the laptop from is not responding, as it is way over the 90 days.
