Hey guys, love the expert advice from the community, need some more now.
I want to build a mining-cum-gaming rig, the motherboard could be specific to the processor(Try intel as I already have a huge CPU cooler i would like to use) but just keep in mind that i need atleast 3 PCI-E x16 slots, and about 2-3 x1 slots. I already have my R9 290's . Please suggest a good processor that will handle most of my tasks(I just had an i7-3770k and found it too much unnecessary power as all i do is mine and game occasionally game, but want power when it is required.).

Componenets I already have:

120GB SSD: Sandisk Extreme 2
1000W PSU: EVGA Supernova
3TB HDD: WD Green
CPU Cooler: Thermaltake SB-E Extreme

My budget:650$

Thanks a lot for your advice. :)

It is quite hard to find a Z77 motherboard that would suit the person's needs, So This is what i think you'll need, and You can add things depending on what you need

4 PCI-E X16 Slots

Supports Tri-Fire

LGA 1155 CPU Support - Are you planning on upgrading?, For tri-Fire and slots, LGA 2011 is the best option for socket you can get + 3 R9 290's needs an extreme CPU to prevent a bottleneck so a 4930k Hex core CPU might be your best bet for an upgrade.

2 SATA 6GB/s Ports

USB ports, How many do you need?

mining and gaming the cards run separately since i have only 1 24inch display, I really dont need them in Crossfire but it wouldnt hurt if they were. Other info like the CPU and motherboard is more what im concerened about.

the PSU wont be a prob, I'll add in a second one. Im thinking of 3 R9 290's and a an HD 5770 for mining. the processor and motherboard i will buying are going to be for my new mining rig , hence the 3770k won't be in the new machine. please suggest a processor with the motherboard .
Thanks.

Ok so if i go for LGA 2011 what CPU, motherboard would i need ? USB ports , i don't need more than 4, and i wouldn't want to use all 4 graphics card for gaming just 1 290 would do the trick for me and the CPU need not be so expensive that it burns a hole in my pocket.
Thanks.

Well, I have a Gigabyte X79 UP4 and it's a great board and has all the things you require, 4 PCI-E X16 Slots and with a total of 10 USB Ports (which is heaps), it is a great board for an exceptional price (For me in Australia is was $269, but you can get it for much less then that). With the CPU, If you wanted a Quad Core CPU that is at a decent price, I'd get the 4820k ($325 roughly), but if you wanted a better CPU for real demanding tasks I'd get the 4930k Hex core CPU (expensive though around $600), Which is the CPU I have and is used with that motherboard, A great combination. You easily have the space for 4 cards on that motherboard and a crossfire cable option if wanting to use 2 R9 290's together.
