Hi,

This is my first PC build and I have come a little stuck on working out which PSU I would need. I will be having 2 x r9 270x's but some information I have seen says the cards need 180w each and another site says they need 300w each, totally confused.

Also, some of the PSU's I have seen on Amazon are really cheap - are they crappy? Why?

Please can someone advise how I can work out the power needs or reccomend a good PSU to power these cards for under £100?

Thank you!

I couldn't fin'd a PSU category in the drop-down so I posted it in this category, hope this is ok.

don't get a cheap PSU, you said yourself they are crappy > likely to explode and die.

Now depending on your processor I'd say solid 600-650 would be fine and 700-750 on the safe side/you can upgrade in future.

http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/xfx-power-supply-p1750xxxb9 - This is a 750w Bronze rated(meaning it's atleast 80% efficient in terms of giving out power at all times)

made by a solid manufacturer of PSU's and is a lot less likely to fail than cheap one!
It's also semi modular meaning some of the cables can be removed(literally just unplugged) if you are not using them, This helps keep your PC case organised but if you aren't interested in that the non-modular is about £10 less.

There are better PSU's than this for a bit over £100 but this unit is perfectly solid.

This is an example of £105 gold rated FULL modular(every cable can be removed, semi modular means the main power cable to the mobo atx 24pin always stays attached)
http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/xfx-power-supply-p1750bbefx - gold rated efficiency as well meaning it'll output closer to 750w than the bronze.
