Hi
thanks for your prompt response. I followed the response given but no benefit after starting scan I am getting message windows resource protection found corrupt files but unable to fix some of them please advise

From CMD prompt run
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
Then run SFC again. If it finds files it can't repair run this
findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >sfcdetails.txt

You'll find sfcdetails.txt in C:\Windows\System32
Scroll down to look for non repaired files

See if this works
1. Troubleshoot the Windows 8 (8.1)! Simply insert the installation disc of Windows 8 in the DVD drive and restart the computer. After selecting the language comes the confirmation of the Windows installation-8, here you choose not to install but the item "Repair Your Computer"
see image - http://www.softwareok.com/img/faq/Windows-8/Repair_your_Windows-8_Computer.png

2. And then choose the Option "Troubleshoot"
see image - http://www.softwareok.com/img/faq/Windows-8/Troubleshoot_Windows-8_with_Installations_DVD.png

YOU WONT LOOSE ANY DATA
It will repair your corrupted files

Perhaps the fact that you 'upgraded' as opposed to a clean install is preventing dism.exe from functioning, it compares your Windows files with an online image and corrects any differences. As you have a W8 install disk, you could try a Repair Install which won't lose any of your programs/data

Hi
i tried to follow the advise but couldnt succeed. After inserting windows installation DVD in my external DVD drive I restarted the machine it started as usual without asking any thing about windows installation on clicking the dvd got the message about installation of Windows 8 there was no option of repair your computer. On continuing with installation it asked for what you wanted to save and only option was nothing. So I left it there and aborted the installation.

If you have data and programs to preserve go for the Repair Install as outlined in the link I gave you. Otherwise you can revert your Dell to Factory Settings, but you'd need to back up your personal data first.

Restoring to Factory Settings

Step 1
Click on the "Desktop" tile. Mouse over the upper right corner to access the Charms bar, and then choose "Search."

Step 2
Select "Apps" and "Dell Backup and Recovery." Click the "Recovery" button.

Step 3
Choose "System Recovery," then "Yes" and then "Continue." Click on "Factory Image."

Step 4
Select "Restart" to wipe your existing data and return the computer to its original factory settings

Hi, just an idea up in the air, if you right click on the taskbar, do you see an option Start Task Manager there.
