Hey all,

today it randomly poped up and said that my copy is not genuine. My uncle gave me this pc with windows already on it and for some reason it comes up with this. My wallapaper has gone and it says that it is not genuine. Is there fix for this or do i have to buy another copy from the money takers :D

This issue happened to me too when I bought a computer from my office. It's most likely a region locked serial key. However the only thing a non-genuine version of Windows 7 does is that you can't have wallpapers and you won't get any updates. You'll need to buy a new serial key or ask your uncle to help you if you want these benefits.

That all depends on where your uncle got it. And if this is a second hand PC, there is no way I would continue to use that OS.

Ok and also what are the disadvantages of not having a genuine copy

1. It is illegal.
2. You have no way of knowing exactly what it is. An install not from Microsoft could contain anything. Bots, trojans, etc.
3. It is illegal. Period.

Is there a key printed on the case?
