My specs are
Processor: Intel(R) core (TM) i5-3230M CPU @ 2.60GHz 2.60 GHz
RAM- 4.00 GB (3.89 GB usable)
System type: 64 bit Operating System, x64-based processor

Hard drive is 500gb with 140gb free

I don't think it should slow down from being full with those specs maybe a bad drive I don't know sorry.

Try to clean all useless files and folders on this drive. If you cannot do anything to this drive, your drive may get some problems. You’d better test it to see whether it is still healthy.

You'll get much more help if you edit your first post and replace the title with something short and to the point (like, Unable to read external hard drive) and then in the main body you can post what you are experiencing.
